Five bets worth knowing
Which ones are open depends on the match.
- Match result (1X2)
- Home win (1), draw (X) or away win (2), normally settled on the score after 90 minutes plus stoppage time, so extra time and penalties do not count. The Sports Betting T&Cs have the exact rule.
- Over/under goals
- Whether the total goals finish above or below a line. With a line of 2.5, three goals or more is over, two or fewer is under.
- Handicap
- One side starts with a goal head start or deficit, so a one-sided match has a closer price. A favourite at −1 has to win by two or more for the bet to win.
- Both teams to score
- Yes if each side scores at least once, whoever wins. A 1–1 draw wins a yes bet; a 3–0 win does not.
- Outright
- A bet on the end of a competition, such as the league champion or the top scorer. Your stake waits until the season or tournament is decided.
Reading odds of 2.50
Stake 10, and a win returns 25: your 10 back plus 15 profit.
Decimal odds include your stake, so the return is stake × odds. The same price is 3/2 in fractional odds: win 3 for every 2 staked, plus the stake back.
Divide 1 by the decimal odds to get the chance the price implies: 1 ÷ 2.50 is 40%. If you rate the real chance lower than that, the price is not in your favour.
During the match
GemBet has live betting: place bets while a match is in play, with odds and stats updating as it goes. A cash-out option lets you settle a bet before the final whistle.
The GemBet Predictor
Guess match outcomes correctly to win a share of the Predictor prize pool. In Singapore the pool is SGD 10,000.
Before you place a bet
- Check team news close to kick-off. A rested striker or a rotated defence changes a match more than last season's table.
- Ask what each side needs. A team happy with a draw plays differently from one that has to win.
- Set a stake per bet and a budget per week, and keep to both after a loss.
- Read how a market settles in GemBet's Sports Betting T&Cs before you bet on it.
